Research
Engaged scholarship is at the heart of our work as we collaborate with government, policy makers and civil society. Our work is intent on better understanding care, inequality, and justice in society.
We focus our work on understanding how key social changes within Southern African societies impact our everyday family and intimate lives. To do this, we adopt diverse and relevant methodological approaches to better understand care in society.
Projects

Transforming Elder Care
The three year IDRC project, entitled Transforming Elder Care through Collective Policy Action in Southern Africa, is to support policymakers throughout the region in developing evidence-based action plans for family-based care of older persons, guiding the development of policies and programmes and budgeting.

Accessing Social Grants
These research projects examine specific social grant administration in real life across South Africa at different levels of social assistance service delivery. This ongoing research is in part funded by The University of Cape Town’s Vice Chancellor’s Social Responsiveness Award.
